Explanation of Maximum Bids
-
- Maximum Bid - the most you are willing to pay for a trip. see below
- Winning Bid - a bid that beats the Current High Bidder's reserve on a trip. see below
- Losing Bid - higher than the previous High Bid, but does not beat the Current High Bidder's Reserve. see below
- Minimum Bid - the lowest amount that you may bid on an item. see below
- Outbid - a bid that was once a winning bid, but has been bid against by a higher bid.
- Invalid Bid - see below.
- Current High Bid - the high bid or winning amount at the PRESENT TIME.
- Current High Bidder's Reserve - the amount of the Maximum Bid that is being held in reserve. It may equal the amount of the Current High Bid.
-
Winning a Bid - First Bidder
If your bid is the first bid on an item, you will "Win the Bid" at the Minimum Bid amount, but your Maximum Bid will be held in Reserve against future bids. When you "Win the Bid" you become the Current High Bidder, and the Current High Bid is the amount of the Minimum Bid. Your Maximum Bid becomes the Current High Bidder's Reserve.
-
Winning a Bid - Beating the Current High Bidder
If there is already a Current High Bidder for the item, your bid will win the bid if your Maximum Bid beats the Current High Bidder's Reserve by $25. You must always bid at least the amount of the Next Minimum Bid. The "Winning Bid" will be $25 more that the Current High Bidder's Reserve. Your Maximum Bid will be kept in reserve against future bids.
-
Losing a Bid
If your bid does not beat the Current High Bidder's Reserve by $25, then you have placed a "Losing Bid". A "Losing Bid" will cause the Current High Bid to increase to match the amount bid against it, until the Current High Bidder's Reserve is exceeded by $25. This Bid is recorded even though it has lost automatically.
A Tie Bid
A Maximum Bid that is the same as the Current High Bidder's Reserve does not "Win the Bid". It is a tie, and the Bid that was placed first wins. In this instance, that is always the Current High Bidder. To Win a Bid, you must exceed the Current High Bidder's Reserve by $25.
-
Maximum Bid
The Maximum Bid you place is kept secret from other bidders. Other Bidders only see the Current High Bid, and the Next Minimum Bid. The Next Minimum Bid is always set to be $25 more that the Current High Bid.
You cannot bid against yourself to raise your Maximum Bid.
-
Minimum Bid - Next Minimum Bid
Bids must be whole increments of $25. You cannot bid $301 for a Maximum Bid, even if it is higher than the Next Minimum Bid. If the Next Minimum Bid for an item is $300, you may bid $300, or $325, or $350, or $375, etc.
-
Invalid Bid
An Invalid Bid is a bid that could have failed for one of the following reasons:- Bid amount did not meet theMinimum Bid requirements.
- Invalid login - wrong bidder ID or email address. Call the office to check your registered bidder number and email address.
- Bidding on the Item is closed.
- New Bidder is already the Current High Bidder.
